Danny Coates-Finke

Danny started practicing yoga six years ago, after a bad breakup.

He went to that first class looking for a teacher and direction. What he found was his own body- tight, confused, but containing every iota of information he needed to live a fulfilling life.
Since then he’s studied Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Tai Chi, and spent two summers as a volunteer at Kripalu Yoga Center. His classes are awareness focused, safety oriented, and based on the premise that if you feel what’s going on inside you will learn something.
Every day is a new day, and yoga will always be here. Come by if you want to hang out and feel a bit better.

Yoga Inspiration

So many! Danny studied acting in college, his voice teachers believed that by loosening your tongue you could become Shakespeare for a second. At Kripalu, Danny met young and old people willing to suspend their lives and wash dishes so they could practice yoga. He lives with his girlfriend now, who always surprises him with the depth of her kindness and intelligence. Man, the whole world gets him going if he’s looking at it right.

Favorite Quote

Anything by Andrea Gibson, but this one in particular always moves him:

“What I know about living is the pain is never just ours
Every time I hurt I know the wound is an echo
So I keep a listening to the moment the grief becomes a window
When I can see what I couldn’t see before”

Danny’s loves

Good friends, live theater, passionate music, and anybody who is willing to do the slow courageous work of self-study.
